A delegation led by AEPC Chairman Dr. A. Sakthivel met Hon’ble Vice President of India Shri C. P. Radhakrishnan Ji and submitted a representation seeking removal of the existing 11% import duty on cotton to support the growth of India’s apparel and textile sector.
The delegation highlighted that access to globally competitive raw material prices is essential for Indian exporters to compete effectively with neighbouring countries and secure larger opportunities in international markets.
The industry also emphasised that reducing cotton import duty would help strengthen supply chain efficiency, improve competitiveness, support export growth, and generate employment across the textile value chain.
The delegation included representatives from leading textile and apparel industry associations from the Tirupur cluster including TEA, SIHMA, TTPK, DAT, TEKMA, TEKPA and SIIMKA.
